Manchester City

Manchester City Live

Manchester City football club was originally founded in 1880. Back then, it was known as Saint Marks (West Gorton), which then changed to be known as Ardwick A.F.C. in the year 1887. The club finally settled on its current name, Manchester City Football Club, in the year 1894.

Man City has definitely had its ups and down through the years. Perhaps its most successful period in history was between the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s. Manchester City won an amazing number of trophies between those years, including the FA Cup in 1969, the League Cup twice in 1970 and 1976, the Charity Shield in 1968 and 1972, and the European Cup Winner's Cup in 1970. As one can see from this impressive list, the years between the late-1960s and early-1970s were incredibly successful ones for the blue half of Manchester.

Unfortunately, however, after this amazing period of time when the Man City flourished, they had quite a slump and struggled quite a lot as a team. City made it to the 1981 FA Cup Final but ultimately ended up losing. It was quite an upsetting loss for the team and its many legions of fans. Manchester City was also relegated from top flight during the 80s. They managed to again start rising in eminence, then suffered another slow decline. The glory days seemed to be well behind them at this point in their history.

Manchester City FC was part of the original Premier League line up in 1992, but sadly they ended up being relegated to Division One in 1996. Thus the ups and downs in the fortunes of the Manchester City Football club continued on. City seemed to get its game going pretty well for a period of time thereafter, only to be relegated once again in 2001. Happily, however, they won the Division One championship for 2001-2002, which was a great event for fans of the club and was much talked about and remarked upon at the time.

Throughout its history Man City had basically always played at a stadium called Maine Toad. In 2003, though, City moved to a new stadium which is known as the City of Manchester Stadium. This was quite a big event in Manchester and received much attention from fans and the press. After moving in to their new home, and since that time, City has experienced much drama with its leadership and performances. The club remains, however, one of the most popular in England to this day and since being taken over by Abu Dhabi based billionaires their fans can see nothing but great things for Man City.
