The largest sporting event in the world is now over until South Africa 2010, when the World Cup moves to the southern hemisphere. Although the World Cup was a great success in terms
of organisation the quality of the actual football just didn't cut it. What started of as a great free flowing tournament (the best in many years) became a sequence of dull games as once the knockout stages
came each team thought only of defence. The only truly memorable match of the later stages being the Argentina vs Mexico game in which Argentina came out on top thanks to a stunning strike late on.
The tournament started with great goals as forward took advantage of the new lighter
"air flow" balls to shoot from range, the hosts Germany scoring a barrage of great goals. All this was forgotten as the World Cup tournament progressed and we were left with some of the most awefull games in recent World Cup history (not just every game England played). Overall I was left disapointed, boring games, a final that
will only be remembered for a Zinedine Zidane head-butt and a Portugese side that became solely responsible for the total loss of repsect for all footballers as professionals with constant cheating and diving!
